Hungry for land: Small Farmers Feed the world

Governments and international agencies frequently boast that small farmers control the largest share of the world’s agricultural land. When the director general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization inaugurated 2014 as the International Year of Family Farming, he sang the praises of family farmers but didn’t once mention the need for land reform. Instead, he announced that family farms already manage most of the world’s farmland – ...Read full article...

The Big Risk of Nano-materials in your Food

The problem with nano-packages is that their powerful payloads may cause harm to those who eat them in their food. With the arrival of globalization and due to monopolistic practices and technological advances, our food supply became dependent on a global system of production, distribution and manufacturing. Today, food is not anymore what we plant and harvest, but what others create in a lab, often times without the proper ...Read full article...

The Destructive Impacts of Industrial Agriculture

“The claim that the Green Revolution or genetic engineering feeds the world is false. Intrinsic to these technologies are monocultures based on chemical inputs, a recipe for killing the life of the soil.” By Dr. Vandana Shiva Asian Age May 28, 2014 We are made up of the same five elements — earth, water, fire, air and space — that constitute the Universe. We are the soil. We are ...Read full article...

Science is great when scientists use it to manufacture products that make our lives easier. But science can sometimes be the worst culprit when it is misused to hide the dangers that some chemicals pose to human health. As explained in the first article, food is understood either as “something that nourishes, ...Read full article...

Chemical Reality: What you Eat is not what you Need

The following is the first part in a series of articles that will focus attention on the food industry’s success in making people believe that processed and packaged products can pass as food. In this article, I will attempt to bring attention to the definitions of food we know and start unmasking the pesky ingredients that are present in our ‘food’ even though they don’t qualify as such. First, ...Read full article...

Cartoons brainwashing kids to accept GMOs

What is the best way to change public perceptions on any topic? Through entertainment. The battle to control us through changing (or creating) our opinions is as old as history.  Carefully disseminated disinformation was first documented in ancient Greece, when playwrights and poets created dramas for the sole purpose of indoctrinating their audience to a certain set of morals, standards, and beliefs. When creating his empire, Macedonian king Alexander ...Read full article...

Are you broke and can’t afford healthy food? Here is what you need to do

The lower your income is, the more difficult it is to be particular about what you feed your family. This probably isn’t an earth-shattering revelation to anyone, but if you feel like experimenting, try to buy a week’s worth of healthy food for a family on a budget of, say, $50-75.  Food manufacturers that target lower income shoppers with more affordable products tend to include more GMOs and toxic ingredients in ...Read full article...
