Is Piers Morgan ready to convert to Constitutionalism?

British television host Piers Morgan is finding out all by himself that the claims about government turning against the people are not just conspiracy theories. In a recent edition of his show and while talking to comedian Pen Jillette, Morgan said that the Internal Revenue Service spying on conservative groups was an action that bordered on tyranny.

“But, actually, this is vaguely tyrannical behavior by the American government. I think what the IRS did is bordering on tyrannical behavior. I think what the Department of Justice has done to the AP is bordering on tyrannical behavior,” he said.

Jillette complemented Morgan’s comments with his own idea of how vigilant people must be regarding government action and abuse of power. “It shows you how much we can trust the government to sit back, which is not very much at all,” he said.

It remains to be seen if Morgan can make the connection between the last examples of government abuse with the kind of oppression the same government will be able to conduct on a disarmed population, which as we all know is much worse than simply spying on specific political or religious groups.

“I’ve had some of the pro-gun lobbyists on here, saying to me, ‘Well, the reason we need to be armed is because of tyranny from our own government,’ remembered Morgan. “And I’ve always laughed at them,” he told Jillette. “I said, ‘Don’t be ridiculous! Your government won’t turn itself on you.”

Well, it seems that Morgan is now beginning to understand what we mean when we say that government is becoming tyrannical.
