Iranians Forecast War for the Fall

By LUIS MIRANDA | THE REAL AGENDA | AUGUST 1, 2012

The maximum representative of the religious branch of the Iranian government, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, bluntly warned the Iranian military forces that war on Iran may be unleashed next September or October.

Ali Khamenei’s warning comes after the Iranian leadership held a war council meeting where he leader said that “war is weeks away” reported Israeli news DebkaFile.

Iran has continuously announced that it is prepared to respond to an attack led by Israel or the West, while people like former Mossad leader, Meir Dagan, has publicly said that the retaliation that Iran could initiate if it’s attack would be lethal for the country.

Iran has also reiterated that if attacked, it will close the Strait of Hormuz, the most important transit bridge in the region. The United States responded to that threat saying that the US has all the capability to impede Iran from doing such a thing, and that even if the Strait is closed, the US will act to the transit of products such as crude oil circulating freely towards countries in the region and the West.

“An attack on Iran before you’re exploring all other approaches is not the right way how to do it,” said Dagan on several television interviews. If the former Mossad chief is correct, the US and Israel have either found a way to counteract any attempt from Iran to attack Israel, or they have simply disregarded its threat.

According to the report on DebkaFile, Ali Khamenei has said that Iran expects attacks on its nuclear infrastructure, to begin with, and to have the attacks get worse as the country responds to American, Israeli or bombings executed by Western allies. Experts and Middle East observers have agreed that an attack on Iran or Syria would start a localized fired that has the potential to spread rapidly over the rest of the region.

The world is now seeing how, due to the proxy attacks on Syria, which are supported by the United States, millions of Syrians have had to flee some of the most important cities in the country such as Alleppo, where a thriving population ran away from their lives because of the toughest fire fights seen in years between the US-backed resistance armies — most of them composed by Al-Qaeda members — and the Syrian Army.

“While retaliation had been exhaustively drilled in regular military exercises in the past year, Khamenei ordered the biggest fortification project in Iran’s history to save its nuclear program from even the mightiest of America’s super-weapons. Rocks are being gathered from afar, piled on key nuclear installations, covered with many tons of poured concrete and finally plated with steel,” says the report.

As for the intelligence that can be gathered regarding whether or not an attack will actually take place, there are two different currents of information. One alleges that any attack on Iran would not happen before the American election for president, which would push the attack to the Spring of 2013. The other says that an attack is imminent and that the US and Israel had been fine tuning the details to hit Iran in a way that the country was not able to respond as it has threatened to do.

What it is known for sure is that Iran has been dutifully planning to absorb an attack against its infrastructure and to respond on a timely fashion, while the United States and Israel have been separately amassing ships, troops and special operations forces inside and outside Iran in preparation for the upcoming attack. Right now, US Defense Secretary, Leon Panetta, is visiting Israel in what seems to be the last direct contact between the two countries before the attack.
